SM-17 Tower
Another tower I use for contesting and VHF DXpeditions is this one, the SM-17, also a former military tower:
It's painted in red and white every meter to look more fancy. The tower is very robust and capable to carry a large headload. On the left you can see that we put a long yagi and 4 stacked bigwheels on top if it. I must admit that this setup broke the tower (due to a handling mistake) when we lowered it again after the contest :-) The tower is very modular and put together from 2m pieces It was easy to change the broken elements. The top of the tower (where the rotor is mounted) is 17m above ground, which is quite a useful height as you get easily above smaller trees and bushes. |
